Welcome Back!
We have an exciting week planned in The Kourt Room! With the snow days before break we need to finish up a couple things that we did not get to. Below is a review of the week!
Valentine's Day: I know many children had their Valentine's ready to share with their friends before the break. We will celebrate Valentine's day on Monday, February 24th - have your children bring their valentine's in on Monday. It was our plan to have an ice cream party to celebrate this special day. If any of you still have the treats - feel free to drop them off at school tomorrow. Please do not go out and buy or make anything new - we will use what we have to celebrate! Thanks for your support.
Growing to Maturity and HIV/AIDS: With the snow day on the Friday before break we were unable to finish up our Growing to Maturity unit. We will have our last Growing to Maturity lesson on Monday. Look for the Growing to Maturity packet to come home on Monday - please review this with your child. This week we will have our two HIV/AIDS lessons. Our first lesson will be on Wednesday and the last lesson will be on either Thursday or Friday.
American History Project: It was our plan to give the children their American history topic before break. With the inclement weather we were unable to do this. Please have you child hand in his or her topic choice on Monday and we will give them their topics on Tuesday. In class on Tuesday, I will help the children organize a note packet for them to research throughout this project. The actual research and the 3 sided display should be done at home. I will talk to the other 5th grade teachers about giving the children extra time to complete this project since they could not work on it during break. Look for more information in future classroom blogs.
February Learning Luncheon: We hope to see you at Wednesday's learning luncheon. You will have a chance to read your child's most updated cursive writing debate essay. During this week's luncheon we will hold our very own classroom debate. I will give everyone a hot topic article to read, children and parents will each choose a side, and we will then debate out the facts! You will not want to miss this luncheon.
On Friday there is a "wacky relay race" competition and basketball game between Bethlehem teachers from all around the district. The event starts at 6pm at the high school and admission is $5. Glenmont has a team of approximately 12 teachers that will be representing us proudly. This event raises money for the Bethlehem Community fund. We hope to see you there!!
As many of you know my wife and I will be having our second child any day now. Within the next week or two I will be taking a couple days off to be with my family. My wife will most likely be in the hospital recovering for a couple days. There should be a consistent substitute in the classroom, I will keep you updated when I know more.
I appreciate your support.
Andrew
